The Project
The Association for Children with Disability Tasmania (ACD Tas) is excited to announce that we have received funding from the Australian Government Department of Social Services to continue to offer peer assistance to Tasmanian families between September 2024 and June 2027. As part of our project, run by our Peer Network Hub team, we will run self-advocacy (peer assistance information sessions) clinics across Tasmania. These clinics will be tailored to meet family local needs that are reported to us.
Self-Advocacy Clinics
The goal of the self-advocacy clinics is to empower young people with disability and families and carers of children with disability, by providing the information they need to access and engage with necessary services, systems, and supports. Where there are barriers that prevent people and families from having their needs met, we will collect this information, collaborate with local communities to identify solutions and connect with decision makers to bring about needed changes across Tasmania.
If you would like to attend an initial outreach session or would like an advocacy clinic to be held in your area, please register your interest by scanning the bar codes below or contacting ACD Tas.
About ACD Tas
The Association for Children with Disability (Tas) Inc., commonly known as ACD Tas, is a Tasmanian disability specialist family organisation. ACD Tas started in 1997 when a group of parents recognised the need for a professional state-wide family advocacy organisation.
Today, ACD Tas provides services statewide including, independent information, advocacy, consultation and training, case coordination (NDIS Support Coordination) and peer support services to over 1300 families with children with disability, and young people with disability, every year. All ACD Tas service areas and staff work proactively to prevent issues wherever possible and ensure timely access to appropriate and relevant services. Our programs are strength-based and family-centred, focusing on empowering families to achieve self-defined goals for the direct benefit of their children with disability and their families.
In addition to being skilled and experienced professionals, the majority of the ACD Tas Board and staff are parents, family carers, or individuals with disability.
Our Mission
The overarching mission of ACD Tas is to advocate for a more inclusive society by reducing and eliminating barriers to inclusion faced by children and young people with disabilities, and their families’ and carers’.
